Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Associate Dean for Basic Medical Sciences and Research, this position conducts collaborative research through experimental measurements, data analysis, communication of results through the primary literature, and through the collaborative submission of grant proposals. Strong communication skills are required that permit proficient training of students in the laboratory, as well as an ability to maintain the research laboratories. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Basic Medical Sciences and Research.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Experienced in confocal and fluorescence microscopy, and safe operation for data collection. 2. Calcium measurement in brain tissue slices 3. Cell culture techniques allowing for the growth and cultivation of emterochromaffin and other cells. 4. Molecular biology skills related to protein expression and translation. 5. Biochemical and immunohistochemical methods. 6. Behavioral recording and analysis. 7. Excellent computer skills necessary to set up document formats in Word, Excel, and any other software programs required by the position. Skill in using library search engines for research. Skill in using related laboratory supplies and equipment. 7. Good mathematical and statistical skills with an ability to write automation and analysis routines for data analysis using MatLab, Visual C++, and Visual Basic. Must be able to effectively interact with students, technicians, postdocs and faculty. 8. Working knowledge of related scientific terminology.
Required Qualifications:
1. Education: PhD in Neuroscience 2. Experience: Solid experience in running research laboratory and use of immunohistochemical, calcium measurement, confocal microscopy, molecular and behavioral techniques. 3. Experience: Ten years progressively responsible experience in a related field, preferably in an academic or government laboratory setting including experience with research coordination and instrument development.
