College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific (COMP) at the Western University of Health Sciences invites applications for tenure-system faculty position in cell and molecular biology and pathophysiology and immunomodulation of diseases in translational research primarily in the field of cardiovascular and musculoskeletal diseases. Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in Clinical & Translational Science, Immunology, Biomedical Engineering, Biomedicine or related fields, with research expertise in cell and molecular biology, pathophysiology and immunomodulation of disease process and translational research approaches.
The position will be filled at tenure track Assistant Professor level. The candidate is expected to establish a sustainable research program, make significant scholarly contributions to translational research in a multi-disciplinary manner in cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, podiatric, and periodontal diseases, be an effective teacher and mentor of graduate and postgraduate students in health sciences, and engage in institutional and professional service. Other duties and responsibilities will be as agreed upon with the Dean of the COMP, and the Chairman of the Department of Translational Research. The applicant is expected to secure extramural funding from NIH and/or other federal agencies within 2-3 years. We at the Western University of Health Science are interested in developing strong programs for basic and translational applications with a focus on cell and molecular biology and pathophysiology in health science diseases in a multidisciplinary manner. The position will require collaboration with other WesternU faculty members to develop novel research projects in Clinical & Translational Research in an interdisciplinary manner. The major goal of the research focus will be to gain a deeper understanding of processes at the cellular and molecular level with emphasis on cell and molecular biology and identify targets for developing better treatment strategies using clinically relevant animal models.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Extramural research funding awards to WesternU in fiscal year 2021 exceeded $5 million, reflecting continued growth in the research enterprise. The mission of WesternU is to develop strong multidisciplinary and collaborative discovery through cross-cutting basic and applied/translational research.
Therefore, exceptional candidates who can develop such a program and teach classes in Molecular Medicine and Pathophysiology and Immunomodulation of Diseases and related subjects are invited to apply. Startup funds will provide the basis for establishing an independent research program.
